Biography

Mr. Martin was born in Uniontown, PA, which is about a half-hour outside of Pittsburgh in Southwestern Pennsylvania.  He moved to York, PA approximately 12 years ago when he married his wife, Tabitha.  They have two wonderful sons, Benjamin and Samuel, and a daughter, Anna.  

 

For fun and relaxation, Mr. Martin loves to play as many sports as possible and enjoys being outside in nature.  He enjoys basketball, softball, football, mountain biking, kayaking, and golf just to name a few.  Although he doesn’t get to play as much as he used to, he still enjoys many of these activities whenever he has the opportunity.  In addition to being active and playing sports, Mr. Martin is also an avid fan of the Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins.  Go Pittsburgh!

 

Mr. Martin is a graduate of West Virginia University, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Physical Education in December 2005.  Upon graduation, he taught health and physical education for two years at Dulaney High School in the Baltimore County Public School System in Maryland, prior to coming here to the Red Lion Area Junior High School in 2008.  He has since received his Master's degree in Exercise Science and Health Promotion from California University of Pennsylvania.

 

In addition to his teaching credentials, Mr. Martin has also obtained his Associate of Applied Science in the Physical Therapist Assistant Program at California University of Pennsylvania.  He is licensed and continues to work and practice as a therapist throughout the school year on various weekends, as well as throughout the summer.  His experience in this field has significantly impacted his outlook on life and has helped him put into perspective the importance of focusing on preventative measures rather than just treatment outcomes.  It is now his goal and desire to provide children and young adults with the knowledge, information, education, and skills they need to help them make the best and most well-informed decisions they can to enhance and improve their overall health, well-being, and quality of life.

 

Mr. Martin strives to be as up-to-date as possible in his professional knowledge and teaching skills by reading professional journals and magazines, attending workshops, conferences, seminars, additional graduate courses, and most importantly, working together with his fellow colleagues to constantly improve upon our curriculum and each student's educational experience.
