Bio

Mr. Catullo is a native of Western Pennsylvania and a 1997 graduate of Riverview High School located in Oakmont PA. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and Health Teaching from West Virginia University and a Masters of Science in Education with an emphasis in Health, Physical Education and Coaching from Northern State University.

 

Mr. Catullo is in his 8th year of teaching at the Red Lion Junior High. He is an assistant coach with the Red Lion High School Golf team and has been involved with coaching the high school wrestling team from 2017 to 2020 and still helps out from time to time during the wrestling season.

 

Prior to coming to Red Lion, Mr. Catullo had been a member of the University of Maryland wrestling coaching staff from 2010 to 2017. During his time at the University of Maryland he had helped guide the Maryland Terrapins to some of the winningest seasons in program history, with 18 All-ACC selections, 11 conference champions, 8 NWCA All-Academic honorees, 6 NCAA All-Americans wrestling under his tutelage. Mr. Catullo had also helped guide the Terrapins during their transition into the Big Ten Conference during his last three seasons, coaching Maryland to its first Big Ten win in the powerhouse conference over Michigan State in 2016. The Terrapins had produced 5 national qualifiers and 8 Academic All-Big Ten selections since joining the Big Ten Conference, in addition to 2 Big Ten postgraduate scholars.

 

The University of Maryland Wrestling Program had won two national awards with the help of Mr. Catullo since 2012. Maryland had been awarded the Best of Brands “Gold Standard” Award in 2012, which is the highest award given after the season to the program which most effectively built their brand utilizing technology such as social media, videos, and digital media campaigns throughout the season. In 2016 Maryland was awarded the Pure Entertainment Award. This category rewards programs for going above and beyond to create a successful promotion for a home wrestling event. A key component in building a program brand is to strengthen the fan base on campus and in the surrounding community. The winner is chosen based on the effectiveness of a promotion carried out surrounding a key event during the season.

 

Prior to joining the University of Maryland, Mr. Catullo spent the 2009-10 season as a volunteer assistant at Millersville University, where he helped the team to a third-place finish in the East Regional, qualifying two Millersville wrestlers to the 2010 NCAA DI Championships. Millersville also achieved success off the mat. The Marauders received a NCAA Public Recognition Award for excellence in the classroom as part of the NCAA's Academic Performance Program, one of only 10 programs in the nation to receive the award.

 

Before joining the staff at Millersville, he was the head assistant at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa., from 2004-09. While at Franklin and Marshall, he helped lead the Diplomats to their first NCAA qualifier in 11 years. In 2005-06 he helped guide the team to an 11-5 finish, the best at Franklin and Marshall since 1980.

He also assisted in the development of "The Friends of F&M Wrestling" initiative to raise one hundred and thirty thousand dollars to support the creation of two full-time assistant coaches. Mr. Catullo also had an active role in securing the bid and sponsorships for the 2008 Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association championships at Franklin and Marshall College. Mr. Catullo was a member of the EIWA and NCAA ranking committee and assisted with the women's golf team while at Franklin and Marshall.

 

Prior to his time at Franklin and Marshall College, Mr. Catullo spent two years at Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D., as a graduate assistant, earning a master's degree in education with an emphasis in health, physical education and coaching. He coached six NCAA Division II All-Americans and 12 NWCA All-Academic honorees, while also leading NSU to a top-15 finish at the NCAA Division II Championships.

 

Mr. Catullo was a member of the West Virginia University wrestling team from 1997-2002. During his time in Morgantown, WVU posted two top-10 finishes in 1998 and 1999, placed sixth at the National Duals in 1998 and won a pair of Eastern Wrestling League dual-meet championships in 1998 and 2002. He was also a member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll each year while at WVU and graduated with a bachelor's degree in health and physical education teaching.

 

While at Riverview, Mr. Catullo was a member of the Student Council and the Key Club, he also worked as a stage crew for many of the RHS musical productions. Mr. Catullo was highly involved in athletics at Riverview, he was a four-year letter winner in football and wrestling. He was a three-year captain of wrestling team and went undefeated in dual meets his senior year. Mr. Catullo was also the award recipient of a Student Council postgraduate grant.
