Meet Mr. Smelko

Mr. Smelko is a 7th grade PE teacher. He has been at Red Lion Junior High for the past 3 years. 

 

Before teaching at Red Lion, Mr. Smelko was a 2004 graduate from Punxsutawney Area school district. After graduation, he attended Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania, and in 2008, he earned a bachelor's degree in K-12 Health and Physical Education. During his time at SRU, he was a member of the track and field and cross country teams. In 2012, he earned his masters degree in educational leadership from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. 

 

Mr. Smelko began his teaching career in 2008 in the Kane Area School District in north western PA. There he was a high school health, physical education and dance teacher for 13 years. He coached cross country and track and field until 2020. 

 

In his spare time, Mr. Smelko still enjoys running, working in his garage and woodshop, and being outdoors. 

 

Mr. Smelko loves teaching and helping students to become confident and proud of what they are able to do in class, always trying to work towards students being active for a lifetime.
